Harbourside suburb Pyrmont is one of Sydney's most unique neighbourhoods. Once the industrial heartland of the city, Pyrmont has a rich history complemented by vibrant new bars, restaurants and scenic waterfront views.

At the heart of Pyrmont is the bustling Harris Street, which will be transformed on Saturday 9 November for Sydney Streets. If you haven't visited the neighborhood recently, take this as a sign to plan your next Pyrmont adventure.

Here are 7 ideas to make the most of your day out in Pyrmont

1. Stroll, walk or cruise your way in

Heading to Pyrmont from the Central area? Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Goods Line, a revitalized part of the historic freight rail system that dates back to the mid-19th century. Originally used to transport wool, meat, and wheat, this elevated walkway now features play equipment, greenery, picnic benches, a ping-pong table, and a children’s sandpit, inspired by New York’s High Line.

If you're traveling from the city, walk over Pyrmont Bridge from Darling Harbour and soak in the views. This significant landmark is one of the largest and earliest electrically operated swing bridges in the world and was declared a National Engineering Landmark in 1992.

On a sunny day, why not take a ferry from North Sydney, Circular Quay, or Balmain to add a splash of adventure to your journey? Plan your ferry ride.

2. Take a picnic and make a splash at Pirrama Park

The stunning foreshore park at Pirrama has earned several awards for its architecture and landscape design. Enjoy barbecue and picnic areas, as well as a fantastic kids' playground with a water play area.

The esplanade, known as Stevedore Walk, traces Pyrmont’s original shoreline and commemorates the maritime workers and industries that thrived there from the mid-19th century to the late 20th century.

3. Explore Pyrmont's Art Galleries

Whether you're an art aficionado or simply curious, the galleries provide an enriching cultural experience and a chance to support local artists.

4. Stop for lunch or a drink at an old pub

Pyrmont once boasted 25 pubs, each serving its local industrial concern or wool store. The Quarryman’s Arms recalls the peninsula's early quarrying industry, while The Dunkirk Hotel, originally named the Butcher’s Arms, has been a local watering hole for 150 years. Renamed in the 1940s to commemorate the Battle of Dunkirk, it remains a cherished spot for locals.
