We’re proud to be an official refugee welcome zone and have been since 2005. Refugees and people seeking asylum are welcome in our city.

You’ll see this message on our street banners and digital outdoor screens showcasing the works of 3 talented artists who have lived experience as a refugee or seeking asylum.

The theme for Refugee Week this year is ‘A million stories’, celebrating the milestone of one million refugees who have arrived in Australia on permanent humanitarian visas since the end of World War 2.
