We're using stormwater to flush Zetland's toilets

In 2015, a rain-bomb-like storm caused flooding in Green Square. At the old South Sydney hospital site on Joynton Avenue, the water was so deep your head would have been underwater.

Today, a new system prevents flooding and also recycles stormwater. It removes up to 50 tonnes of rubbish a year – including countless drink bottles – and produces clean water for toilet flushing, laundry and watering parks.
