The City of Sydney has picked three charities to support at its New Year, Christmas and Lunar Festival events.
As charity partners, Beyond Blue, Variety - The Children’s Charity NSW/ACT and The Kids’ Cancer Project will be given a platform at high profile events to fundraise and promote their work.
“These valuable organisations are out there working every day to benefit local communities,” Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO said.
“Our big summer events are great fun and they’re also a wonderful opportunity for charities doing important work to reach a big, and no doubt generous, audience.”
Beyond Blue Limited is the nominated charity for Sydney New Year’s Eve.
Beyond Blue works hard to reduce the impact of anxiety and depression nationwide. Its mission is to help all people in Australia achieve their best possible mental health. The organisation works with the community to improve mental health and makes it easier for people to feel better earlier, get well and stay well. The 24/7 Beyond Blue Support Service offers free and immediate counselling, advice and referrals via phone, webchat or email.
Variety - NSW / ACT will partner with the City of Sydney for its Christmas events.
Variety provides vital support for children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with disability. Its assistance covers therapy, mobility and communication equipment, and inclusive programs that help children build independence, confidence and connection.
The Kids' Cancer Project will be part of Sydney Lunar Festival.
The Kids' Cancer Project funds childhood cancer research across Australia. It aims to provide scientists with the funding needed to make discoveries, translate pioneering research, advance treatments and build support programs. The charity’s vision is to see all children, adolescents and young adults not only survive cancer, but go on to lead long, healthy lives without the lasting side effects of harsh treatments.
The three charities were selected following a call for proposals earlier this year.
