Amateur and professional photographers from across the country are invited to turn their lens on life in Australia for one of the nation’s most renowned photography showcases and prizes.
For 23 years, the City of Sydney’s Australian Life photography competition has highlighted creativity, perspective and the power of visual storytelling.
The competition calls for images that reflect the many sides of Australia, from everyday routines, nature and portraits to abstract compositions, landscapes and urban life.
Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore AO encouraged photographers to submit compelling images that capture moments, emotions and stories in striking and imaginative ways.
“We’re not just looking for technical skill and artistic insight, we’re keen for submissions that depict a compelling narrative,” the Lord Mayor said.
“Australian Life aims to highlight the diversity and creativity of photographers from all backgrounds and gives them an opportunity to showcase their own unique view of the world.
“I’m excited to see the creativity and stories that photographers will share this year.”
The Australian Life competition is open to photographers aged 13 years and older.
An outdoor exhibition in Hyde Park will showcase 20 images from 25 September to 11 October. Each finalist will be paid a fee of $555 if their works are showcased.
A distinguished panel of judges will select a winner of the $10,000 cash prize.
During the Australian Life exhibition, the public will have the opportunity to nominate their favourite for a People’s Choice award. The winner will be announced on 9 October and receive an OM System camera pack worth $5,298.
Images can be captured on camera or phone and are required to meet a series of criteria. Photos must be in landscape orientation, supplied in jpeg no more than 5MB, and not use or include any synthetic or artificially generated elements.
Submissions for Australian Life are now open and close at 11:59pm on Sunday 17 May.
Australian Life is part of the City of Sydney’s year-round Art & About program of events and temporary art projects.
