Sydney’s proposed LGBTIQA+ museum aims to provide a safe and inclusive space for the public to celebrate, remember and learn more about the rich history of Sydney’s LGBTIQA+ communities.
Qtopia is seeking a permanent home for the museum in the Oxford Street precinct, with the former Darlinghurst Police Station at Taylor Square earmarked as a preferred location.
“As one of the most LGBTIQA+ inclusive communities not just in Australia but around the world, Oxford Street is the perfect home for a museum that celebrates the history and culture of the LGBTIQA+ community,” the Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

Stepping up support for WorldPride 2023
The City of Sydney has also just added in-kind support worth $650,000 to its $500,000 cash sponsorship of Sydney WorldPride 2023.
Incorporating the beloved Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras festival, Sydney WorldPride 2023 will also feature arts and sport events, theatre, concerts, parties, First Nations programming and a human rights conference.
WorldPride will be one of the largest events hosted in Sydney since the Olympic Games and will take place from 17 February to 5 March 2023.
