Australia has a rich 65,000-year cultural heritage but our 122 year-old constitution still doesn’t recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The referendum on Saturday 14 October, will ask Australian people to vote on a single question to change the constitution and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through a Voice to Parliament. The independent advisory body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will empower them with a stronger voice in shaping their lives and communities.
We invite you to join a free Walking together workshop in October to learn more about the Voice to Parliament and the Uluru Statement from the Heart, so you can make a well-informed decision before the referendum.
These sessions are led by Nicole Laupepa, a proud Gomeroi woman and Jacqui Parker, a non-Indigenous educator. Together they designed the workshop to teach Australians to walk together and understand each other more deeply.
“We use the Uluru statement as a really clear framework to step people through the past and its impact on the present. But what makes the workshops so special is that Nicole opens up her heart and shares her lived experience so generously,” Parker said.
They’ve presented hundreds of workshops around Australia with great feedback from participants.
“People who have taken part have told us that they really gain a sense of confidence in having conversations and being able to unravel the misinformation that's out there and support people in understanding what the Voice is really about,” Laupepa said.
