Temperatures are expected to climb into the high 30s or mid 40s, across much of the state.

All residents, visitors and workers are urged to take extra care and follow NSW Health advice in the heat.

Remain Covid-safe

Everyone needs to take necessary precautions to avoid heat stress. But NSW Health also urges people to continue to practise Covid-safe behaviour during the heatwave.

If you’re able to cool your home through a combination of fans, air-conditioning and closed blinds, please do so and stay at home.

This is to ensure public distancing continues to happen at airconditioned public indoor venues, such as shopping centres, libraries and community halls.

If you do leave your home to visit other indoor spaces, physically distance and wear a mask.

If you visit an air conditioned public space to escape the heat, like one of our libraries, remember you need to wear a mask.

Looking after each other

Keep in touch with relatives, neighbours and friends, especially those living alone or isolated. Be Covid-safe: check in with them through a phone call or video call.

People showing severe signs of heat-related illness should seek urgent medical attention and, in an emergency, call triple zero (000).

We work with the state government and outreach services to provide care for rough sleepers during heatwaves.

You can also help protect our local wildlife in the heat.
