Donate quality furniture and help support reuse in our area

With a little extra effort, you’ve already rehomed 153 furniture items for families across NSW in 2025 – helping those in need and reducing landfill.

If you have good-quality furniture you no longer need, there are plenty of ways to get rid of it. You could try selling your item online, donate it to a local charity or book a bulky pick-up with us.

But here’s the thing: most furniture we pick up gets crushed in our trucks and can't be reused. Selling online takes time and finding a local charity that needs your item isn’t always easy.

That’s why we’re continuing to trial a reusable furniture drop-off at our Recycle It Saturday event on 23 August. We’ll match your items to a local charity, ensuring they find the right home.

Armchairs, dining tables, dining chair sets, lounges, TV units, chests of drawers, bed frames and more – if it’s in great preloved condition, drop it off for donation. No bookings or pre-approval needed.

In August, we’ve partnered with ReLove to support women and children in crisis. By donating furniture, you’re helping local families have a fresh start and keeping items out of landfill.

How to donate

  • Check your items are accepted. We only take assembled furniture (except bed bases) in great condition that can be safely lifted by 2 people. No furniture containing glass.
  • Drop it off at Recycle It Saturday on 23 August, 9am to 3pm, at Alexandra Canal Depot.
  • Our team and charity will check for quality on the day. You’ll need to take items home that aren’t accepted. Not sure if your items suit? Email photos and details to recyclingprograms@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au and we’ll get back to you within 3 business days.

Give your unwanted furniture a good home.
