The College Street cycleway is back. Originally opened in 2010, the College Street cycleway carried more than 2000 bike trips a day but was removed by the NSW Government during the construction of the light rail.
The City of Sydney and the NSW Government has reopened the 650m cycleway. The leafy bi-directional cycleway runs alongside Hyde Park, connecting to King Street cycleway through Queens Square in the north and the city’s busiest bike route on Oxford Street in the south.
More separated cycleways on Liverpool Street, between College and Castlereagh streets, and along Oxford Street are due to start construction in mid-2023. With the construction of these new bike links, people riding will have a separated north-south bike route across our whole local area, between the harbourside at Circular Quay and Rosebery.
Bike trips in our local area have more than doubled since 2018, and riding in the city is now safer than ever thanks to the expanding bike network, with over 22km of separated cycleways.
